Hi, we have a Magic Touch Heat press (Beta range by aakins) After 2 years of excellent service it is showing a fault.
The timer have stopped working and the led is showing 'probe error' still heats up and shows the temperature on the led but as soon as you use the press and the error shows up then the heat cuts off.
Can any one give me any advice on getting a repair done in situ, as i really don't want to send the press back to Magic Touch (it will cost a fortune).
Or Any advice about a spare part that i could repair it myself.
You could go direct to Adkins.
You can fit many parts yourself, issue with probe sensor is accurate recalibration, - need a special thermometer ....
Biggest cost fixing an Adkins press is carrage, - maybe you can drop it off and collect ?
I have had one adkins for over 15 years without a fault, still got 2 - used every day, seem indestructable ..... fingers X-ed
P
go direct to adkins, google them. they give fantastic service. best to put a whole new wiring loom in which comes with the probe. i think it cost me about £35 but came with instructions and all the right insulation. next day delivery as well

I had to buy the repair kit today for the probe fault (been living with this fault for over a year, finally had enough) cost me £54.00 including postage for the bits needed. They should be here tomorrow (Tuesday 27/01/2010) We'll see how easy it is to do. Apparently it's a comon fault.
Mine also blows one of the two fuses every couple of months, can't get these anywhere in my area, so bought a shed full from adkins direct, also the spring at the back of the press snaps regular lol, great press in all other aspects tho.
OK, Fixed it today, took around 3 hours and is a two man job for some parts (you need to remove the heat plate while supporting it) Tools are simple, hammer, allen key set, 8 & 10 mm spanners, some form of punch to remove the split pin in the hight adjustment dial, larger punch to remove the bar between the pull down leaver and the heat plate. Small electrical pliers and a pen & paper.
It was fairly straight forward, although there was a spare wire in the loom I received, but checking the original loom, I saw I could discard this wire.
The step by step instructions were well worded, the photos of the operation could have been a little bigger though.
The press is working fine (anxious moments after putting the whole thing back together and then praying it worked when i switched it back on)
£54.00 and a few hours break from printing makes me a happy bunny.
