Discuss the different brands and sizes of heat presses available on the market, including Hix, GeoKnight, Hotronix, and other smaller manufacturers. Topics include maintenance, selection, styles and more.
We have the option to purchase either a used Hix Swingman 15x15 or a new, from the manufacturer SunIE 16x20 press. The price for both presses is the same, $400.
Given these two choices, which would you purchase and why?
Hi I am in a similar situation deciding on a heat press. I never heard about the Sunie until now, I wonder if they are good presses. Is that a new or used Swigman? If new, who is it through?

I'd go for the Hix anytime because my Hix presses are my favorites. I prefer a clam style, but mainly because of the speed over a swing away and I do quite a few shirts sometimes. If I was going to do low quantities or any specialty stuff like bags or hard items I would get a swing away for sure. The plus with the swing away is no burnt knuckles and ease of laying out whatever you are going to press with out a big heater cooking you. I'm not a fan of the Sunie brand or how small its opening is. I'd definitely choose a good brand name 15x15 over a 16x20 Chinese press every time. Brands I'd recommend are Hix, Mighty, Stahls, Maxx, Phoenix, & Geo Knight. The 16x20 size is great, but the 15x15 will serve you well.
before buying the Hix you should find out how old and was it used for business or home use and check web site and see what kind of parts you can still buy for it.
Now with the Sunie I had the 15x15 and love it and sold it for what I paid for it now I have 16x20 and would not go back to 15x15 I love the way you can lay out the shirt and press transfer...

Thanks all! We went with the Hix because it had been used occassionally and was purchased new a couple of years ago. I called Hix and they said that it had a lifetime warrantee on the heating element. This and the nice customer service, helped to seal the deal. We do not need the 16x20 size now, especially as out Epson printer only prints 13x19.
I purchased a pair of 15x15 teflon sheets on ebay for less than $15 delivered. I think this will do us for a while, equipment wise, unless someone knows about a great deal on a Roland GX-24.
