Sorry for the newbie thread, but I am unable to find any information for my question, so if anybody can give me some info or lead, I will greatly appreciate it. Thank in advance.
I am trying to use heat transfer to print image on some silicone case I sell. The material is around 2mm thick. I know it could withstand on temperature around 350F, so it should be ok to use on a heat press(I don't have one yet;but sure will buy one as long as I can confirm if the method work). However, I am not sure the exposure time need so the image will transfer and stick, or if the image can be attach to silicone at all(due to the material)
Can anyone give me some information if heat press will work for the application? If so, any specific supply(specific brand of transfer paper, ink) needed?
Hello!
The best thing to do for a "new " application is to test the product first. A division of Stahls, Transfer Express, offers Digital prints that may work perfect for you application. The temp needed for app. is 305 and it may work great. You can find out TE contact info by looking in this forum under prefered vendors.
Good Luck, and please let the forum know your findings.
However, I am more interested on doing my own graphic(as I already have some plan). Could you recommend a brand of transfer paper? As I read there are some brand that is specific for cotton, some are of polyester...Not sure which fit my application better...
Just tried to test water with a regular iron and some Avery stretchable fabric transfer. The test was a complete failure. The transfer is unable to stick on the silicone like on the fabric. Hand press for 2 minutes, and the transfer still won't stick. Is it the problem on the transfer paper, or something is wrong? I research and I know that is how my competitor make the product, so I am sure the method is right... What would you recommend?

I think that using a hand held iron may be the problem. If you use a heatpress, you can apply MUCH more pressure, evenly. Time, temp and pressure are the principles a heat press works on. A hand held iron just isn't accurate, the same pressure is hard to repeat and your results will vary.
