Why do light colors shirts have brown or scorch marks on them after printing and heat pressing?
My shirts have a brown or scorch coloring to them. I get them once in awhile after pretreating but usually get them after I print them and then heat press them. I heat press at 335 for 60 seconds twice with 4 pressure. I've used teflon, parchment and it doesnt seem to matter. Sometime is fades away but sometimes it doesn't. Could use some advice. Thanks

Can I assume you're using a DTG printer? I don't really know about those, so I'm really just pulling this out of my ear
With a DTG, is there not a pre-treatment spray that you apply to the shirt before printing? Perhaps that is what is scorching. Maybe too much pre-treat? Could your heat press dwell time be too long?

That does seem like a long time to press them for if you;re just screen printing them yourself.
I'd make sure that the tee is completely dry before pressing as your more likely to burn it that way. Id try 180 degrees for 3x 15 second or so bursts. Having separate hits of heat is more effective and safe than 2 long bursts for 60 seconds..imo.

Thanks for all the info. I have been trying it different ways and on ash shirts I don't pretreat I lightly pretreat and heat press 325 for 5 seconds x 2 so far it has stop the scorching. Have a great day

Pre-treatment----
Parchment non silicone
1- preheat press to 330
2- Spray my pretreatment just so I see a light mist
3- brush down fairly firm to make sure to get it into the fibers. I only brush the one direction.
4- use the quilan parchment paper and press at 330 for 15 seconds. Take off the paper and press another 10 seconds. Then I am ready to print
Curing T-shirts-----
parchment paper silicone
White shirts with no white ink - 60 seconds on 330 degrees
Dark shirts with white ink - 3 minutes on 330 degrees
this is what I do seems to be working for me, hope it helps for you

Also it sounds like your pressure is too high. With dtg you want very light pressure. On my heat press when I am curing my prints, I have the pressure as light as I can get it, just so the press closes. This will also give you a better cure, as the dtg inks are water based and the moisture needs to be able to escape. Try with lighter pressure at 330 degrees and see if that works better. Also what are you putting on top of your print when curing? I use the silicone treated parchement.

I am going to try the lighter pressure but they told me to use 4 pressure at 325. I am using treated parchment and teflon sheets. I have tried swithing different kinds of sheets and curing time and pressure. I don't spray as much pretreat on my ash shirts as I have been doing. It seems to be helping. Do you need to spray anything on white shirts and what kind of pretreat do you use? Thanks have a great day
