You can pick up a plug adapter anywhere.
What voltage is the machine, continental or US?

16A is 4KW, a fair sized electric fire, you should ensure that your circuit can supply that, check what esle is on that circuit, but otherwise no probs.
Can you simply cut the plug off and put a new one on?

Can you run a 3-bar fire off a circuit?
If you aren't sure, talk to an electrician.

If you can plug in an electric oven on your circut then you're ok, just don't overload the same wall plug with other appliances.
However if still in doubt just get an electrician to fit you up, It should only be a 15minute job.
BTW is it possible to tell where from Germany you got it.

Another thing I forgot to say is, plug it close to the wall plug do not use an extension cable, as this will burn the fuse, damage the machine and the could even cause a fire. ( don't wish to worry you but better safe than sorry)

Would it be too difficult for you to forget B&Q and just go to an Electrical shop and ask them if they stock some decent electrical adapters for continental plugs.
