Discuss the different brands and sizes of heat presses available on the market, including Hix, GeoKnight, Hotronix, and other smaller manufacturers. Topics include maintenance, selection, styles and more.
The only real thread I remember seeing about a Joy is this one, but there's not much in it except someone else looking at it: what kind of heat press
Actually that thread lead me to another with a user feedback in it: Newbie cautionary tale
But, while it may be a good machine (not my personal opinion, I don't know this machine at all.... that will be for you to research and figure out for yourself) ... while it may turn out to be a fine machine, it seems it is not commonly used.
Because of that, I might pass on it. There are other machines out there with more user feedback available on them. Besides the brand name presses, there is the Sunie which has alot of owners on the forum, and those owners say they are happy with their presses and would buy them again.
I have 2 presses from JSM and they have not given me any problems. The company has some excellent prices and a good gaurantee including a 25year gaurantee that spares will be available.
The UK doesn't have very much in the way of affordable american presses, they are on average twice the price here as in the states.
I am not a hobbyist T shirt printer, I do it as part of my business and the presses get some heavy use.
Has anybody in the Uk used the cap press on ebay.co.uk - Subli CapMagic Cap Hat Heat Transfer Press Machine?? It is £179 which is cheap for a cap press and whereas I don't want to spend too much on this press there is little point spending it on a really bad one!!
Thanks
Phyllis

I used to have a JSM clamshell press, it was the first press I brought and I always intended to upgrade however I never needed to.
The price is very good and the products are OK, I will not say they are great, I had a few problems with some of my vinyl not sticking so I used an infared gun to test the platten and it was quite uneven, and the digital temp display did not match the actual temp.
I did a bit of research and found some truly awful reviews on the company and products, mostly relating to items that have gone faulty and users upset at having to pay to courier item back to the company (its a return-to-base warranty)
I ended up selling mine when I moved countries and am now looking for a new heat press, this time I have a bit more money and am prolly going to go for a Stahls or Adkins.
All in all, if this is your first press then I would recommend, the price is good and as long as its not faulty I dont think you should have any problems, once things really pick up for you, upgrade to a more expensive press if you need to.
