Default New to heat pressing! Some questions.

Hello everybody,

this is my first post. I've just got a heat press (cheap, china-made) and a Roland GX-24 cutter. No probs at all with the cutter, very easy to use.

Today was the first day we've actually tried the heat press. We've got "Poli-flex" transfer foil and is pressing on 100% cotton.

First off - the lights flicker when the press reach it's temp (150-160 degrees celsius). The pressure adjustment is just a knob... We had some really bad results to begin with, but in the end it looked like we had some good results.

Anyways - my question is if there's any "rule of thumb" on how to know what is a "good" result and what is not? Without washing the garment xx times?
Is there anything to look out for?

Thanks for a great forum,

Nils in Sweden.

Hi Nils

Your transfer paper should come with directions on how to use it, such as temperature, dwell, pressure setting and hot or cold peel. Having said that, I find that you have to experiment some times with them to get it right. Just play with it and you'll eventually get it how you want it. I hope this helps and good luck.

Hey Bill,

thank you very much for your reply. We will play with the settings and I'm sure we'll eventually come up with the right one...

Another question - we've got some results where we have "square" on the shirt, where we have pressed... is that because of too much pressure or too much heat? Or a combination of both?

Again, thanks for a great forum.
