Red face Will ink dry up

Hi! I'm very new to this forum. I joined because whenever I google my questions, the T-shirt forum ends up in the top 10 sites. But I haven't been able to find an answer to a more specific question and I'm hoping that some of you will use your insight to help guide me.

I'm an artist and I buy oval ornaments from an online sublimation printer all the time. I have them print my black artwork onto white ornaments. I sell a good bit especially around Christmas time and here and there throughout the year. But I'd like to save money (after initial investments) and print my own black/white art onto plates too as well as tiles or other varieties of ornaments and perhaps even a small lone print onto fabric now and then. So I'm thinking all I need is a plate press. (Right?) I'd also eventually get a mug press. I already have an Epson 1400 - I just have to buy the sublimation ink etc. (I probably would like to print color as well eventually but I definitely sell my black/white art.)

If I only use the heat press every couple weeks or so during the slow part of the year and then more frequently towards holidays, is that too infrequent? Will my sub-inks dry out or can I just run a utility function now and then to keep it from drying out?

And I print to my Epson from my Mac. I guess color correction softwares will not work on my Mac but since I work in primarily black and white, does that matter? Could I get away with using only a black bottle of sub-ink to do my black/white printing?

I know these are a lot of questions. I'm looking to invest a lot of money though and I don't know anyone personally to ask. Any tips or recommendations would be most appreciated. Thank you!
Patti
