Discuss the different brands and sizes of heat presses available on the market, including Hix, GeoKnight, Hotronix, and other smaller manufacturers. Topics include maintenance, selection, styles and more.
I posted this in the general section but it seems more appropriate here. So I'm expanding my screenprinting to include transfers. It is an unforeseen expense but makes sense to not turn away small runs and by making plastisol transfers I can eliminate stock cost and space(IDK which is more valuable). I've got my press choices down to two options. A) Geo Knight Combo 14x16 or B) Sunie 16x24. If any could offer any experince or opinions on them it would be greatly appreciated. As well as transfer papers for both cotton and 50/50's and light and dark garments. Thanks
i would go with the bigger press i have 15x15 and could always use a little more room. you can press small stuff on the 16x20 but you cant press bigger stuff on the 14x16
I, too, am in the same spot. I know we need a new heat press (a bigger one) and the Sunie's price definitely appealed to me but I'm scared. I have a "cheap ebay" press now and it's a pain in the.... well, you know. Every time I've ever thought I got a good deal, it turned into a bad deal.
I'd for sure rather have the Geo if money isn't an issue. Let me know if you try the Sunie and it works out.
Hard call because I don't understand your reasoning for choosing two very dissimilar presses. But answer this, it's Friday afternoon and you've got an important job due Monday morning, are you willing to gamble with a hobby press? You can find dozens of posts from people who gambled and lost.
Well the heat press will mainly be for small orders and retail online(once my site is up). I'll be using my carousel for normal and large and to make my stock transfers. It would be nice to have the big boy but it takes longer to heat up and I probably would screen my large images anyway. I'm going with the GK since the price is right ($300) used plus a 3 1/2 hour drive each way. But I'll save on shipping and can bring my temp gun and check for cold spots. Thanks for everyone's input and all the previous threads. I love this forum. I'll put up a review if it checks out.
We have a Hix 600 and the heating element doesnt work right ... have issues with the plastisol transfers ... it works for the JSSP papers due to the time being longer (30 sec. vs 8-12 sec.). So we went with the Sunie 16X24 heat press and LOVE IT!!! It works beautifully ... we purchased it in December and so far have had NO trouble with it!
Sorry for the delay. I ended up going with the Geo Knight combo and here's the story and the review. So I saw it for $300 on CL and drove the 3 hours to the other coast and when I got there he said it wasn't working but swore it worked the night before. Having done my homework I knew that the cpu boards ($125)sometimes go on the unit, so I checked the contacts and breaker to no avail. So after a beer and an hour of troubleshooting he said It was his brother's who had moved and it was just taking up space. He said I could take it for a hundo and if the parts cost more than $200 to fix I could bring it back for my money. I told him that the gas there and back twice would cost that so I Wouldn't bother bringing it back. So on Monday I called tech and they said it was the power supply and it would cost a whopping $33 with shipping. I replaced it, then took it to a fabrication shop I worked at ten years ago and had a buddy spot weld the top plate back together(the press weighs a buck twenty and apparently someone dropped it) it costs me $10 and a Marlboro light. Got home fired it up and haven't looked back. No cold spots, heats up in ten minutes. This beast is awesome and I got it for $200 give or take, I looked recently and they're going between $700 an $900. Thank you everyone for your input. I'm glad this forum is free but the wealth of knowledge that I've learned here has saved me a ton of dough. Love you guys and let's never let this site die even if we did have to pay for it.
