Default Newbie question about transfer presses

I am thinking about getting into heat transfers, but have no experience with them at all. I have done some screen printing but want to be able to screen print the front of shirts and apply a heat transfer to the back - for sports teams etc... So I have 2 main questions:

Would I even be able to do this easily? Everything I have seen, the shirt has been laid flat on the transfer platen, wouldn't this just burn the plastisol on the front into the bottom platen? Or is there room to have the front of the shirt hang under the platen?

I am considering the Maxx Press 16x20 - would this be a good choice?

Thanks,
Eric

Hi,

That is pretty much the standard way I make softball uniforms. As long as the front is FULLY cured, you should have no problems. Just make sure the shirt is very flat.

I don't know much about that specific press, but 16X20 is a great size. I was originally going to go smaller (less expensive) but I am very glad I went 16X20. Really helps with legs and arms.

Good luck...Nick

Nick, you can apply the transfer to the other side of the shirt without a problem. It might be a good idea to insert a teflon sheet or parchment paper inside of the shirt to prevent any 'bleed-through'.

I use a Maxx 15x15 myself. Great press! I wish I would have gotten the 16x20 though!
