Default How many amps to maintain temperature?

Hello, We are just getting into sublimation and Rhinestones. We just received our DK20S. We plugged it in and the circuit breaker blew in less than a minute.

We are in a very old building with original wiring and circuit breakers. The wall sockets and overhead fluorescents are all on the same circuit. Best I can figure, the current load is about 10amps on a 20amp circuit breaker. When the DK20S heats up, it's drawing 15amps.

What I would like to know from an electrical expert is: does it take the full 15amps to maintain a set temperature?
I thought I might turn the lights off, heat up the press and turn them back on, but I'm not sure if this would work long term.
We have a store with walk in customers and I would hate for the lights to go out unexpectedly.

A heat press cycles on and off, but when on, every few seconds, it draws full power. You will need to have an electrician put in a dedicated outlet for your heat press.

the only other work around would be too have a 10 amp ac draw battery charger charging batteries and a 15 amp capacity UPS/inverter providing current for your heat press. eccentially what this would do is convert the intermittent 15 amp draw into a pretty steady 10 amp draw. you would need several rv style batteries to provide the extra capacity to get through the initial warm up stage of your heat press before it's heat controller switches back to intermittent mode.

if you consider this make sure you provide all the details to a qualified supplier to properly match capacities and duty cycles of the components you would use.

if possible i would still definately recommend just having an extra outlet installed.

A 15 Amp press (DK20S) draws 15 amps when it is on. The time and temperature doesn't matter.

I think your only practical solution is a dedicated circuit. However, if at all possible, get a 20 amp line.
