Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I am NEW to the transfer world, and am LOST.. I have several customers wanting different types of "transfer" shirts and I am ovewhelmed and I hate to keep turning them away.. I have had a heat press for a long time but only did rhinestones and just recently learned of the transfers. Is there a company out there that will explain the different types, what program to do artwork, and basically what works best with what, an idea of pricing, etc. I can read online all day but it doesnt give me I guess BASIC training.. THANK YOU THANK YOU
In your basic thoughts and genre I believe, would be pre-printed transfers and things like inkjet transfers that you print yourself. I can't be more specific so I'll PM you.
1. Inkjet transfer for light colored tees (white is best) using Jet Pro Soft Stretch paper and pigment inks.
Raster or vector files can be used with unlimited colors as you print them from your printer.
2. Cad cut vinyl tranfers using a cutter and vector files. Good for one color lettering and simple graphics, can be layered for two color graphics.
3. Plastisol transfers are custom screen printed transfers you can order from the folks that make them.
There are several companies for you to choose from. Artwork type is usually what the vendor
doing the transfers prefers.
All are applied with a heatpress. Plastisol, only the ink transfers and is number one in quality. Cad cut vinyl is indestructable and great for lettering but can limit your colors and there is no color blending. Inkjet transfers are good for full color art like photographs etc but need to be trimmed either by hand or an optic registration cutter.
I left out dye sublimation and opaque inkjet transfers for darks.
go to the link on this forum on left, Alpha supply they have basic lessons on thier site, good place to begin.
At first this can be overwhelming because there are so many methods after you get the hang of it , it's fairly easy. The graphics is the hardest part, I learned everything I could off the net before I started selling tee shirts. also go on utube many good videos. also on left is imprintables warehouse also a good place to learn. post some questions after you get some basic knowledge. good luck
