Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
My very first post! Is it true that Lowe's and Home Depot tiles can be used for dye sublimation? If so, which tiles, and what is the process (are these tiles polymer coated to begin with or do I need to apply a polymer spray?).
Unless Lowes and Home Depot have recently started carrying tiles specific for dye sublimation, the answer is no, absolutely not. You have to purchase tiles specifically coated for dyesub with a polymer coating - the harder the coating, the better. I've never had much luck with the spray-on coatings either, so I can't recommend those. Your best bet is to purchase dyesub tiles.
No, tiles bought at Home Depot and Lowes can not be used for sublimation. There are some companies who will try to convince you they have a coating that can be applied. it make work for a while, but it will not hold up.

You cannot buy sub tiles at a local store. I think where some of the mis-information comes from, is the fact that Bison Coating in the US, coats Daltiles.
Daltiles, of course, can be bought in stores, but they are not coated.
