Default Is there such thing as a bad heat press ?

Do most have timers and temperature gauges ?

What are the warning signs of a bad heat press ? If I was to buy one used what shouldn't I buy ?

Has anyone ever been unsatisfied with their choice ?

Some have manual timers and temp guages and others have digital. Buy a name brand press if you can at least 15x15 or larger. Teflon coated upper platon with a lifetime heating element warranty. If buying new check with Imprintables Warehouse (PM Josh) they offer forum members a discount. You can also check with Coastal.

If buying new on E-bay....make sure they have the press in stock and ready to ship. Many of those dealers are just taking orders and having the press drop shipped from the manufacturer with no idea of available stock. You may be waiting up to 6 weeks for delivery with no real e-mail customer service.

If buying used...stick with the same info and press type as new but be careful and make sure you test the unit buy pressing a shirt with a transfer you know works well.

Short answer: Not really.

Longer answer: Sometimes. Most presses by any big name company will work just fine and last a long time. However, you should avoid the odd 'skillet' presses or similar that are sold very cheaply on eBay; they tend to have lots of cold spots, press unevenly, etc. from what I've read. Basically, avoid the cheap hobby no-name stuff.
