Exclamation First time Plastisol user...need some advice

Ok, I just recieved my new heat press from imprintables warehouse. First off...I want to thank Josh for doing such a great job! He was VERY helpful...and I got my press and all the accessories I ordered in 1 DAY!!! I'm sure it helps that I live 3 hours from the warehouse....but still...nice!

Anyways, I started testing out some stuff right away. I had a bunch of scrap shirts lying around and I just recieved a binder with plastisol transfers from frist-edition. I was not very succesful with these. The only one I got right was a cold peel. All of the hot-peels I tried did not work well at all. I followed all of the heating and timing instructions.

Maybe the press is getting "broken in", I don't know. Can anybody give me any tips when using plastisol to make sure I am heading in the right direction?

Thanks!

Kieth, sometimes you have to drift away from the instructions. Everyone owns different presses and it is impossible to get same instructions for everyone of them. You will get it. Play with the temp, time and pressure. Don't be afraid to cut the transfers in half to make them go farther. We are here for you.

hi Keith,

May be shoot first-edition a problem ticket since they made the transfers you are testing, they would know best.

I know i sound like a broken record on the board but I stick to Hot Peels that work on all frabric colors and are quick and easy to apply. Why all transfer makers dont make them this way ? I dont know.

Cold peel are great for Glitter transfers and such i find.

The Press you have is top of the line so that is not a problem.

If you are planning on getting cataloge stock transfers also, that will get a little tricky to apply since there is a great variety of tranfer types, suppliers etc. You will need to record apply settings in order to minimize shirt screw ups.

I think for now, just play around and get a feel of the press and test out more transfers etc. like Lou said.

I too had issues at first.. with the samples received from First Edition, and the problem I found.. Not enough pressure.. Once I just cranked it up a bit so it was more pressure, it came out absolutely beautiful!

Same temp as suggested... I really don't remember and don't have the book by me, but it said Medium/Heavy Pressure.. and I THOUGHT I was doing heavy.. but realized I could go alot heavier.. and Did, and thats when they came out correct. So I made a note to my self.. if it says Med/Heavy... Go totally Heavy - I found with some other preprinted transfers from proworld, the same... It said Light pressure one on.. and they werent turning out, so I just did more of a med/heavy, and it started coming out fine..

Anyone else notice that with the pressures listed for different transfers??

Thumbs up Re: First time Plastisol user...need some advice

You guys are awesome! Thanks sooo much for the advice!

I will definately try a little more pressure...and make sure to make a list of what works best for me.

On a good note....I actually printed my first "real" shirt last night. And, it worked great! I used a sheet of the IW Jet II paper for lights and put a design on a white long sleeve shirt. I was VERY impressed with the quality of the print, and how easy it all went on. I'm washing it now to see how it holds up....and will be using one of the IW Jet II for darks on a black shirt later this afternoon!

This is pretty fun....
