Reason: removed eBay url
In general people often have trouble setting up CIS systems (sometimes they're very temperamental), and specifically several people have mentioned on here having particular difficulty with cheap systems they'd bought on eBay (sometimes they just weren't able to get them to work).
On the other hand I haven't installed a continuous ink system myself, so the above should be taken with a grain of salt. Hopefully someone with more direct experience will see your post.
I am expecting my everlast CIS system which I am getting from Coastal Business. This is new item for them and one I am going hook up and give them feed back. The reason I choose this system is because the company has done test on it before introducing it. They are also a great service company and one that I purchased 2 presses from and paper. I trust them. I actually have the system here but my printer is coming on Wed. I will try to some sort of video of hooking it up. No promise.. I have been known to screw up things.. just ask my wife. I will be using a c88+ epson printer. This system comes with 4 oz. of 4 colors and is pigmented inks. So keep an eye out as I know there places out there to buy systems and one is referenced to here on the forum. I don't know about the Ebay systems and I am reluctant to buy with out knowing the company for support. Lou (If you want to know more contact Kim at Coastal Business)
That is a smart move. a lot people rush into getting things they do not need or they try to save money. That does not often work and could cost you more later. Too many people here on the form have bought equipment they did not need or it was to complicated to use when the got it. They just want to be in this business and think they need what they bought. keep researching it will be the best thing anyone can do. Lou
I bought a cis system off ebay for like 50 bucks a while back and attached it to my c86... I was working great for a while.. but then it started leaking... let me tell u it was a mess.. .then the ink started to clog up my printer... i dunno...
If I ever get another cis system, I am going to spend the extra money and buy one off of coastal business. I think its like 200 or something for the printer and a cis system combination
Actually, from what I've seen, price is NOT equal to quality in CIS systems, though I would still suggest avoiding eBay for one and getting one from an actual company (that could hopefully help support it).
Granted, it IS pretty hard to find much information on CIS systems and results people have gotten. But, when I was looking around (almost everyone had tried a different brand; not just a few brands like with papers, printers, etc.) a few months ago, it seemed like people were having just as much trouble with the expensive $200 ones as people were with $50 systems.
I would try to go with a company you trust already if possible (like Lou is). Failing that... I'm not sure. One ASSUMES a $50 system is going to be worse than one costing 3 or 4 times as much, but this may not be the case.
Did the same thing between leaks and clogs, I finally messed up the head so bad trying to clean up the cloged black ink that the 1280 and cis went in the trash, glad it wasn't my 1800. Never again
