Default Burnout on 100% cotton

Until recently I was only aware that you could only burnout 50/50 shirts, but I've noticed the majority of burnout shirts I've seen lately are "100% cotton"??? How is that even possible? Anyone know how to do this. I've tried various experiments with fiber etch,... but the result was always the same. Which was HOLES. Thanks in advance.
