Custom design pressed... similar to screen printed?
As a newbie screen printer, we just obtained an order for a local soccer team's jerseys. Their logo is a 3 color left chest design and an 8" number on the back.
We are getting F&M "numerals" for the back. Seeing how polyester is a trickier item apparently to print on, it was recommended that I have the logo custom made by F&M and just applied to the front as well. Looking at their pricing... it's possible. Plus the "cost" of the jerseys that we are NOT supplying and the potential for screwups on the printing... worried about that part so this might be a better option.
My question(s) involve that....
- F&M good for that?
- I believe they offer a 4 color process... is that right?
- When done, will this look/feel like screen printed?
- I've seen some transfers that have an "outline"... that wouldn't be good... this have that?
- Any down sides that anyone can thing of?

If plastisol is done right and made to work with jersey it should transfer well and should look, feel and durablity like screenprint. F&M is a good company for custom transfers. Ask if the ganged transfer is cheaper. 4 color process is not cheap. Typically there is setup charge associated with the order. Some company will wave the fee if the quantity warrants it.
Plastisol transfer does not have outline or window issue. Only the ink will be transferred.
The downside I see is cost. Make sure you give plenty of time to meet your schedule. I use to order custom plastisol transfer. I have given up because no matter how I document my design the vendor misinterprets my instructions and manage to mess up my order. Plus I have better control if I do my transfers in house. I had an order that the registration was so bad and obvious the vendor still sent it out.
