Default Effects of using Teflon

I just had my new mini-Hix heat press delivered. I also ordered a teflon sheet to protect the platen. Now, forgive me for sounding naive, but
1. if I use teflon as opposed to using nothing at all, do I need to make any adjustments to the time, heat or pressure of my transfer?
2. I am doing light and dark transfers (Ironall Dark and Jet-Pro Softstretch)..if I'm using parchment paper on the darks can the platen still get dirty?
3. Do I need to adhere the teflon sheet to the machine, or can I just place it on top of the transfer?
4. AND..about how many transfers can I typically do with one sheet?
..Thanks to anyone who can answer this newbie's questions.

1. If you are using aheavy piece of teflon you might want to increase all three. Trial and error.
2. The platen should not get dirty but if it soes there is no harm caused.
3. Just place it on top of the transfer.
4. One sheet of parchment or teflon?

The teflon should last indefinitely.

Be careful with teflon especially when it is starting to wear out. When used to cover the image on post pressing a very faint ghost image will be left on the teflon surface. If you are not paying attention and use it on another shirt the ghost image will transfer on the new shirt. You have to wipe it off while the sheet is still warm before you use it again. Parchment paper is cheap and disposable. You can use teflon over the parchment paper to minimize scorching and you don't have to worry about the ghost image.

No worries, we're all new at some point. Pls don't ever worry about asking.

Please Note:
My answers are based on the fact that you did not say you are going to "re-press" or "post press" your shirts. If you are going to stretch and press them again, the answers I've given would be different.

PS: I suggest stretching and re-presses, so I would suggest you use parchment for that. I use teflon for the first pressing -note you do not have to - and I used to use teflon for my re-press, but now use parchment paper, to avoid ghosting and to get a smooth finish on the JPSS. I'll give you a link at the end of the post.

No. I don't make any adjustments for temp with the teflon sheet. I use the same mfg settings.

If the transfer is fully covered by the parchment during the press, your platen should not get dirty.

You can place it just on top of the transfer, that works fine. I do it that way, too. Gotta admit, though, I do dream of the teflon pads for the press, bc it looks easier. Jmo.

I remember a member here, Jan/Jberte, who said she is 5 years on a sheet. Mine's a few years old now. Just keeping it clean is the key to use teflon without trouble. If ink gets on it, that can transfer to the next shirt and ruin it. Been there, done this.
Best of luck... Kelly =)

Thanks Kelly..I tried a few presses today using Jetpro, and they look great. However, they did feel a little rough. Thanks for the link regarding the repress! I'll definately try that next time.
