I also ordered a teflon sheet to protect the platen. Now, forgive me for sounding naive, but
No worries, we're all new at some point. Pls don't ever worry about asking.
Please Note:
My answers are based on the fact that you did not say you are going to "re-press" or "post press" your shirts. If you are going to stretch and press them again, the answers I've given would be different.
PS: I suggest stretching and re-presses, so I would suggest you use parchment for that. I use teflon for the first pressing -note you do not have to - and I used to use teflon for my re-press, but now use parchment paper, to avoid ghosting and to get a smooth finish on the
JPSS. I'll give you a link at the end of the post.

1. if I use teflon as opposed to using nothing at all, do I need to make any adjustments to the time, heat or pressure of my transfer?
No. I don't make any adjustments for temp with the teflon sheet. I use the same mfg settings.

2. I am doing light and dark transfers (Ironall Dark and Jet-Pro Softstretch)..if I'm using parchment paper on the darks can the platen still get dirty?
If the transfer is fully covered by the parchment during the press, your platen should not get dirty.

3. Do I need to adhere the teflon sheet to the machine, or can I just place it on top of the transfer?
You can place it just on top of the transfer, that works fine. I do it that way, too. Gotta admit, though, I do dream of the teflon pads for the press, bc it looks easier. Jmo.

4. AND..about how many transfers can I typically do with one sheet?
I remember a member here, Jan/Jberte, who said she is 5 years on a sheet. Mine's a few years old now. Just keeping it clean is the key to use teflon without trouble. If ink gets on it, that can transfer to the next shirt and ruin it. Been there, done this.
Best of luck... Kelly =)
