Default Teflon....yes or no?

I press with it, sometimes I forget and press with out it, the prints are fine, some better with out the teflon, so what’s the purpose? To protect the garment I assume, correct me if I'm wrong...

Does it affect the way the transfer is "transferred"?

Who use's one on every press, who doesn’t use one at all?

Thanks

Mike

we use teflon or parchment paper with dyesub to keep the ink off the platen in case it bleeds thru the paper. otherwise we dont use teflon.

for plastisol transfer, I never really use it. No need.

only if the inks need to be protected from the iron's direct heat/contact, but the release sheet does that.

i do use it sometimes after the transfer have already been printed on the shirts to give it a differenat texture/look (you can add alot to plastisol transfer inks like glitters as you print your transfer)..... or to fix up screw ups.

for freestyle projects etc. it comes in handy. Again to protect what has been printed already.

Only time I use my sheet is when Im pressing multi layers of vinyl. Ive done 4 layers using it. Its also handy when pressing an "All over " design. Since my press is only 15x15, I use it to protect what Ive already finished.

We just always use the teflon for everything. Easier to just use the teflon then to forget when it's important and have to scrap glue or vinyl off the top of your press =)

The times it is absolutely needed are when you're pressing pre-cut vinyl (like lettering) and when you're pressing another area of a shirt that's already been pressed. (Sounds like dye-sub may be on this list too?)

Finally, I find that the teflon sheet helps keep the transfer in place a little bit better, for regular or plastisol transfers. Sometimes the motion of the swing-away press causes a little bit of wind which shifts the transfer; a teflon sheet over it will prevent this.
