Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I have ordered from Dowling Graphics in the past, and I have been extremely pleased with their service and quality.
Thing is, I've only ordered 1 color plastisol transfers up to this point (white ink for black tshirts, to be exact)
I desesperately need to order some 4 color transfers (for black shirts), and I am obviously considering Dowling as my choice..BUT, I'd like to ask all you gurus out here if you've had any experiences with this company regarding plastisol transfers with more than 1 color.
Do they crack when you flex them? (due to the fact that there is a color on top of another now/white base)
Do they usually come out of register (where you can see the white lines from the white base)
Do they feel smooth like their 1 color plastisol transfers?
I ask because I just had these 4 color shirts made with a local screenprinter (thinking that it would be cheaper than plastisol transfers...Hey! $4 bucks per piece!)
but I just recieved the shirts and I am veeeeery dissapointed, thus I'll have to re-do them as fast as possible.
You did not state your quantity. I also recommend first Edition as a source. This is who I use. www.first-edition.com.
4 color gets expensive and $4.00 does not seem that unresonable unless you are talking over 100 pieces. Of couse most of the screenprinters here could better answer that question. Lou

Well Lou, quantity is not important, since I just want to know how is the quality of the color plastisol transfers.
But I would be ordering minimun (like 24 per design or something)
$4.00 for 4 colors is not unreasonable at all (especially here in Puerto Rico, where the standard is $7.50 for 2 colors!) BUT when I got my shirts, the quality sucked big time.
Thus, I'm gonna re-do all the shirts with plastisol transfers.
That is why I'm asking if anybody here has tried plastisol transfers of more than 1 color before, with Dowling Graphics.
(First Edition was originally my 1st choice, but they never ever EVER answered any of my questions, even though I basically begged them not to ignore me. Dowling on the other hand was very fast and responsive, so I went with them.)
I agree to a point. But you stated $4.00 I stated First edition which offers quality as a given then you need quantity to get the best price. As an example 24 units 4 color is $6.52 per transfer. I have used more than one color from First edition and was Happy with quality but my quantity was higher and that also made me happy about the price i paid. Was your question to First Edition through an email? I have never had a problem getting an an answer fro them. I call Janet there all the time. If you would like I Will make a call to her and tell her that you did not get a response. I will copy your post and send it to her. If you would like to call her yourself then the number is 1-800-872-6760 And ask for Janet.. Lou

I sent them a copy of your post. Again give them a call and tell them (Janet) I said to call. I have sent them a lot of business.

An easy way to see how their multi color transfers actually look and work is to just purchase a couple stock images and press them.

I was wondering if I was the only one, hehe. We decided to try First Edition a little before Thanksgiving, since the customer service of Silver Mountain was poor (though the transfer quality was fine).
We had been exchanging emails back and forth for a bit, and they wanted things in vector and not in the 300dpi raster I was used to using. Not a big deal; I re-do everything in vector (mostly a variety of text designs) AND get it sent back to them on a Friday - don't hear anything. Send one more message the next Monday, asking if it was fine, when they could ship it, where to send payment, etc. Still no response to date.
So I guess I'll keep going down the list =)
Anyway, the quality SHOULD be good, but I can't personally vouch for it. I've never used Dowling nor tried more than 1 color plastisol transfers yet. It shouldn't really have much more hand to it though; I don't think they print the inks all on top of each other (except the white back layer). They should be able to print them seperately and accurately without doing so (just print nothing where another color goes).
You may just have to try one batch and see how it goes. Or, the idea of trying some of their pre-made transfers with multiple colors is probably a good bet as well.

I also have an e-mail in to First Edition and havent heard anything. They must be very busy. I will wait another day and then I am going down the list as well.
I used to tell my employees when they complained about being very busy.. I told them they should be thankful as this is how they get paid. If you think it is because they were too busy to handle your email then I say they need to take on more people to handle the mail. I will contact the people at First Edition and forward your post. I know I will see them at the show in Long Beach. Lou

Unfortunately, that always gets muddied up with the fact that everyone will inevitably recieve slightly different service =) Sounds like they've treated you right, but the service is certainly falty for some of us.
It is good to let them know there's a problem, though. Hopefully they can address it, but I don't really intend to use them now.

As you can see, a major turn off is slow costumer service, even if the product is great.
Indeed. Had the same problem with Silver Mountain; no real complaints about the transfers, but the service was very poor.
