Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I knew it was inevitable... I was just hoping it wasn't going to be this soon =) But today marks the day of my first heatpress burn... =) And wouldn't you know I was trying to be so careful... LOL
HAha. i got mine the day I brought it home. i think it was almost just to get it out of the way. But I am a welder and were not the smartest people on the planet. i couldnt tell you how many times Ive finished welding something up and seconds later touched for whatever reason. SIZZLE :0
for a while it was happening to me too often. Thats when i decided to wear Michael Jackson type gloves and Legwarmers on my arms (Armwarmers). I even got really stylish and started printing the ARMwarmers with flames, dragons etc.... the arm tattoos i never had the nerve to get done.
You just need to always concentrate when working with the press and dont get into any deep conversations with anyone while you're at it.
I have no hair on my Knuckles. it usually happens adjusting the collar on my clamshell.. You are now an official presser..

Reminds me of an episode of "Yes, Dear"... Where she made something similar =) I think they were for baking... I cant remember exactly =) Good show though LOL
Lou that's why you need that Swing-Away(Just kidding LOL). I have only done about 2,500 presses so far, not even close to LOU but I have not burned myself yet I know I know now that I said it I will probably get burnt tomorrow. Good luck to all and like T-bot said you always got be careful.
The top of the upper platen is hot, but won't burn you unless you keep your hand on it for an extended period of time. The bolts on the top platen is what will get you if your not careful.
as Josh stated they are all hot also don't forget the bottom platen can be quite hot after doing consecutive shirts in a short time, It won't burn you it just gets quite hot. Also whatever you may use when printing on front and back to keep the heat from getting through to the other side.
I got mine the 2nd day using it, not from the plate ...but from the top bolts, I now use a old shirt to hold the top when I press down with the clamp....I so want a plate burn...I'm so jealous
Luckily I've not got the first burn, Although I do have the swing-away. Have come close to buring some cords that run beside it though. I know now that I posted, my burns coming (knock on wood) darn particle board desk.
LOL I'll take your word for it and not touch the bolts.. I knew obviously the top platen was hot =) But I didnt touch anything else to check and see if it was hot enough to burn me.. I try to touch the bottom platen only for centering my tees, and then the handle to press... thats it.. hehe I got the top of my hand near my thumb - I hit the corner trying to move the tshirt =) The worst part is I was trying to be so careful =) LOL
I'm clumsy though.. so I expect more to come throughout the weeks. months.. years.. LOL..
My hubby has two matching burns - he was the first to get hit.. lol =) And he did it the same way.. center the shirt - hit both corners.. theres only about 3 or 4 inches between the back corners between the upper and lower platen =)

Thats something else to consider when buying a press. The space between the upper and lower platens in the back of the press, commonly referred to as the throat of the press. The throat does not always rely on the degree of opening, but more on the design of the press.
