Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I'm sure this question comes up frequently, and I've been searching the forums for an answer... but I'm not sure that I'm finding what I need. Basically, the purpose of my website is to track t-shirts. It's still quite new, and it's a fun little project (kind of like Where's George).
The t-shirts that I have produced for me come with tracking codes already printed on the back, but I would ALSO like to start offering iron-on tracking codes. That way, a person could simply purchase the transfer, and iron it onto any one of their old t-shirts.
What I need to find is a transfer paper for inkjet printers LEAST LIKELY TO CRACK... any ideas?
how do you do that ? do all the shirts have the same code ?
From the looks of the webpage.. Each tshirt will have its own code, so people can enter when/where they got it and keep it going, so people can "track" their shirt across the world =)
What a great idea, I remember "where's george".. only problem it was "defacing" gov't property since people stamped/wrote on money - the t-shirt idea is awsome!
I'd love to track a shirt and see how far and long people would keep posting about it!

Supposedly US currency isn't protected from being drawn or written on - just altered for the purpose of fraud (I make no claims as to whether or not this is legally true - but it is what many political sites have claimed, having cited laws that according to them back this up).

You learn something new everyday =) I think my mom used to tell me that when I was experimenting with bending pennies with my dads vice and doing magic tricks ripping dollars when I was little.. LOL - I learned later moms bend the truth to say whatever they need to - to get you to do what they want LOL
I checked again and the relevant statute says "with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued"... so ripping dollars (cutting is explicitly mentioned) and bending pennies would indeed be illegal (and falls under the jurisdiction of the SS... so it wasn't just fearmongering ). Sticking a Where's George? URL on a note doesn't really make it unfit to be reissued however (in my opinion; governmental opinion may vary).

Good point.. I forgot the whole Where's George part wasnt actually making it unusable.. I got a little off track =)
IronAll and Transjet II are both popular papers, which I assume means they're less likely to crack. While normally irons aren't recommended for application, that's because people would assume you are normally transferring something of a decent size. A serial number will be smaller than the iron itself, so you won't need to move the iron around... it should hopefully do okay.
What print method is being used to do the tracking on your shirts? (vinyl perhaps?) Is there any way to get whatever method it is made into transfers as well at the same time? Would that be better?
i see. So does that mean you need to print each shirt with a different code ?
Yes... If you look at their web page.. Shirt number 0004... Is started from the website maker.. Then it is tracked... to his brother in michigan... then it is tracked to someone else several days later...
So by EACH shirt being printed having its own code/number... the web page will track each shirt.. for example.. I buy shirt 005.. Its mine.. then its my dads, then its his friends in another state.. who sends it to their friend from college in another state.. etc.. as each person gets it they can go online, enter the t-shirt number/code and it will list it by date/location and who/what received the shirt.. Quite an interesting concept.. thing if there were 1000s of shirts being tracked all over - It would be cool to see how long it would take a shirt to go around the entire world once =)
I'm wondering if a run of plastisol numbers might work... because they could be ran in order.. I'm not too familiar with them, so i'm not sure if it would be an issue that the each number would be different... but if its possible to get a run of several numbers on each sheet, you could probably fit several codes on each page... 10001 10002 10003 10004 10005 10006 10007.. etc...
Anyone have plastisol experience that may be able to answer this??

I also notice on the web page.. if you look at the 1st shirt being tracked.. the number is on the sleeve of the shirt - this may give you an idea of what he is looking for as far as # size etc..

I don't think plastisol would be a good option for this, because each number would need to be different. Even if you printed 100 different numbers on each sheet, you would still need to print a minimum number of sheets. So you would end up with duplicate numbers.
