Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Hi all-
I ordered some Plasitsol transfers from Transfer Express with the intention of pressing them onto split front jerseys following the instructions found on their site (and on this forum). They are just NOT working. The portion of the transfer that is pressed over the placket area looks terrible--very sparse compared to the parts of the transfer that go over the rest of the front--In fact, you can see the navy color of the jersey right through the transfer where it goes over the placket and you can see right where the seam of the placket is. It is VERY noticeable. I tried removing the 2nd and third buttons and placing a mousepad under the are--there was no change. I am using the recommended settings for goof proof transfers--365 degrees and a pressure of 7 for 5 seconds--peeling hot. Does anyone have any suggestions of another way to attack this beast or something else to try? many thanks

Re: Plastisol transfers on split front jerseys? HELP!
Di,
I ran into the same problem last year. It has to do with the pressure being greater on the placket. I had to move the print away from the seam. It does leave a small gap when the garment is buttoned but it is hardly noticeable. Also use the mouse pad under the area you are going to press to eliminate the unequal pressure the seam creates.
You can not print on the seams no matter how it's done, transfers or screen printing, even vinyl will give you mixed results.
This is a common problem with transfers and seams, the smae thing can happen if pressing say sweatshirt arms. If you don't use a Teflon pillow to avoid the seam of the arm you will have poor results.
Also, I find that white color transfers on dark 100% poly garments sometimes results in color bleed from the garment.
hope this somewhat helps,
good luck,
Len
Re: Plastisol transfers on split front jerseys? HELP!
So I guess this is a known issue then? I wish that I had known that before I began--I probably wouldn't have taken the job. When I spoke to Transfer Express (I told them it was my first time doing split fronts)they made it seem like it would be a complete breeze to do and didn't mention anything about the transfer not adhering over the seam. unfortunately, there is no way for me to move the design away from the seam because the seam is at the outer edge of the placket about 1" to the outside of where the button/buttonholes are. I had already tried placing a mousepad underneath the entire area that is being pressed--it didn't seem to do much good. The design is a solid athletic tail, so any split in the design is VERY noticeable. Goodness--now I am at a total loss and these jerseys are supposed to be done by Tuesday. I'm beginning to think that while it may not have been perfect, that vinyl may have made the problem less noticeable. perhaps someone will have some input on that alternative.
Thanks for your suggestions and help-

OK wait a second I was confused, your having trouble with the placard on the button side, I thought you where having trouble with just the seam on the button side, so if you moved it away from the seam here would be only about a 1/4 inch difference.
You need a Teflon pillow to make this work, it will even out the pressure, you also need to take a jersey that is messed up already and play with the pressure settings, try it at a 5, also try to warm peel after the press (after the press count out about 4 seconds and then peel)
It is defintitly a pressure issue, your temp and time sound perfect.
I still have a jersey with about 6 transfers all over the front of it from experimenting. I used a teflon pillow made for doing sleeves and using a pressure of 5.
Good luck and I hope I helped a little.
