Default Completely new and confused

Okay so I'm completely new to this and have no idea where to start. Basically I want to take a plain cotton hooded sweatshirt and put my company's logo on it somehow. I'm talking, small 2in by 2in logo....

Question 1: If I want to do this on a black shirt, with a white logo, could I just buy the heat transfer paper in white and simply cut out the image and iron it on? Simple as that?

Question 2: If I chose to use a light color, such as pink, and do a black logo, is there any way to get the image onto the transfer paper without using a printer (I do not have one at the moment. I just moved into an apartment in a completely different state and have no use for a printer...)

I'm a bit stuck here and just really didn't want to pay for a screenprinter/embroidery shop to do this for me if I could just do it myself.

Thanks!

Transfer papers need ink to work correctly.

There is transfer paper made for dark fabrics that has a white background. I suppose you could experiment cutting this up, however most of these papers requires a heat press, not an iron. Try looking at Heat Transfer Paper, Inkjet heat transfer paper & Dark Transfer Paper at TShirt Supplies. They may have a dark transfer than can be ironed.

Your other option is to use vinyl. But again, not sure if an iron gets hot enough to seal it to garments.

How many sweatshirts are you looking to do? Is this a one time thing or a recurring job?

It's just a one-time thing.. possibly making two of them or even a canvas bag eventually. Just one for now though, and I'm just not really sure -- I've seen the iron-on transfer pens but a bit unsure of what they do / how they work. One video I saw seemed like the person just took a piece of copy paper with the image on it, and used the pen to transfer it onto the iron-on paper. That's the type of method I'm looking for -- I already have many papers with the logo on them, just no way to print it myself. If there is NO way around using a printer and printing the image directly on the paper then I guess I will have no other option.

I'm not familiar with that kind of heating pen. Where have you seen that video?

You could always buy transfer paper from Office Depot, etc., and have them or Kinko's print a copy for you from your computer disk.

I'd look at getting a local vinyl supplier to do it. They don't have the huge setups or minimum orders of embroidery or screens. It is a more practical solution for small volume.
I think anything done with a hand iron is a short term solution as none of them that I've heard of have good long term results.
If you are in Ontario and want me to quote on it, send a private message. Otherwise, try the classifieds section to see who is offering it in your area.
