I found a cap press for 400$ that comes with extra platen and 125 hats. The cap press seems to be in good conditiond, but it is 4 years old. Should I be worried about how old it is?
Re: Is this a good cap press at $400? It is 4 yrs old.
If you should worry about the age or not depends largely on the make and the reputation that make has for your press.
Likely you will not be getting any warranty, regardless of the brand. That is something you should check out, tho, as some may tranfer. I know Stahls and Hix only give the warranty to the original owner.
There are folks here that have their hat presses longer than 4 years. Hopefully some will comment on their ownership experience. I know others have posted that their regular presses are 10+ yrs, and going strong.
If your price is good or not depends in part on what the original price of the press was, what the warranty likely cost as part of that price (they are never free, they are always built into the price of the item - in this case, the original owner got the full benefit of the warranty - so I would personally look to discount that portion out of the original price, for it is of no benefit to you, unless transferrable.)
Find out what the wholesale is on the hats, so you can negotiate them seperately from the press price. Good luck to you, hope you get a good deal.

Hix has a great reputation on the forum. 2006 makes is seem like it is more like 2-3 years old... so I hope it heats up and performs nicely, you might get a great deal.
Have you checked the retail price of that model? Try to find the 2006 prices, presses went up considerably this year.
