Slightly used Phoenix Phire or brand new Mighty Press
Hey guys,
I was able to find a ten month old Phoenix Phire 16x20 which according to the owner was used to press about 10 shirts and is in mint condition (his business was 99% signs). Digital, automatic release. I was able to talk him down to $800.
The only downside is that the warranty is not transferable. On the other hand I could get a Mighty Press for practically the same price with the obvious warranty.
I know that the Phoenix has more bells and whisles but with the Mighty i've got the warranty to fall back on. But the area where i'll be moving has a repair man as well which is a plus if anything ever goes awry but i'm kind of torn between the two.
Which do you think is the better route?
I'll be using the press to start up a brand so i'm not necesarrily planning to print 100 shirts a week I need this press for the size of prints i'll be doing.
Re: Slightly used Phoenix Phire or brand new Mighty Press
The Mighty Press is a workhorse with little to break down. I have a Black Max (same manufacturer) that has been dragged all up and down the northeast for 6 years now and all I've had to replace is a couple of springs and relays.
The Phoenix definitely is a nicer machine, but those bells & whistles mean more can go wrong. Several years ago at an event a fellow vendor had one 'fry' on her. Wasn't even a year old. Fortunately, it was under warranty, so she got it repaired or replaced after the show.
So there she was at a show with no press to do shirts. You'd think I'd have been jumping up and down that my competition couldn't work, wouldn't you? I guess I'll never be rich ~~ I offered to let her use my press as long as she didn't interfere with me making shirts for my customers.

Phoenix - laser cut steel, 3/4" thick heater, digital time, temp and maybe pressure (if the serial number ends with a P or PD)
If you are doing events where you might be using a generator and there may be spikes in the electricity than the Mighty Press is a better option (no digital control board), otherwise I say Phoenix.
