Anybody having issues with Magic Mix Magenta ink??
Anybody having issues with Magic Mix Magenta ink??
I have always used Magic Mix ink with Magic Jet paper. I had a couple C86's that ran great with it until the C86 died.
I decided that I wanted to step up to a large format printer so I bought an Epson 1280 with a new bulk ink system and a full compliment of Magic Mix ink.
Got it running and Magenta banded. I tried factory carts and it was fine. Back to Magic Mix and it banded. I tried all the tricks and event went to refillable carts to avoid the resivoir hight difference and still had issues.
So I threw my hands up figuring I needed a printer made for pigment ink and ordered a C88 and a new bulk ink system. Magenta banded.
I tried a different C88 and still banded. Currently I am getting by with very minor banding with the highest print setting. Not too comfortable running orders like that.
Now Cindy has been helpful but has mentioned that I am the first to have problems like that. I thought others on here here had issues with magenta.
So far, I have changed everything, printer models, CIS systems, paper, you name it I changed it. EXCEPT the batch of magenta. Every other color works flawlessly every time I changed something. Magenta always ran bad. I cannot think of anything else to try except for changing the ink.
So I have 2 questions.
Is anybody else having trouble? If everybody is happy with magenta than that is good. Somehow I must have got a bad batch or I contaminated it someway. I'd like to continue using Magic Mix as I like every other aspect of it.
If other people are having issues, than what alternatives for pigmented ink are there?
Re: Anybody having issues with Magic Mix Magenta ink??
Indeed, there have been a few sporadic cases of people having problems with Magenta specifically. Perhaps rare enough that Cindy doesn't recall them? I really can't say.
This thread has some more info and people that have had similar problems: Who uses Magic Mix ink?
You will probably need to do 720dpi, though it sounds like you're doing even higher than that. It may not be the ink itself but that piece of the bulk system/air getting in it? hard to tell.
Also, make sure your bulk ink system is LEVEL with the cartidges inside the printer. Too high or too low can sometimes cause banding problems.
Re: Anybody having issues with Magic Mix Magenta ink??
I had magenta banding with a new 1280 and Magic Mix cartridges. (not the bulk system) It would start printing correctly but half way through the design, it would start banding, esp. if the design had dark areas.
I also had nozzle clogs in the middle of printouts, usually one from the black cartridge.
I switched to a different ink (and a bulk CIS) and the problems went away.

I recall them, so that would seem odd. Not that I could say either

Yeah, that was my other thread you linked .
I've been through quite a few different setups and tried many different things. My experiences are very similar to Kristy in the linked thread except TLM has been pretty responsive e-mail wise.
If it comes down to having to use a different ink, I will probably just look at a replacement for the Magenta, since all the other Magic Mix colors work flawlessly.
I know in the other thread Cindy claimed her Magic Mix Magenta was the same as the MIS Magenta so it wouldn't be prudent to try that. What other bulk pigmented inks are out there??
