Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Hi! I recently purchased a used 15x15 Plane Heat Press Machine. So far I have used it to print out a few designs from an inkjet printer on white t-shirts. I have a few people who now want me to do color t-shirts. What transfers am I supposed to purchase for color shirts, i.e. red? I tried using my regular transfer paper on a black t-shirt but there was only a shadow. Also, what printer can I purchase to print transfers larger than 8 1/2 x 11?
There are special transfer papers to print on dark garments. Basically, the paper leaves a white background with your print on top. You can trim the white if you don't what that "white box" look. Some favorites are Image Clip, Alpha Gold, and others. Do a search at the top of this page for 'transfers for darks'.
There are a number of printers that print oversized. A favorite on this forum is the Epson printers with pigment ink. You can research the models on epson.com and also search this forum for suggestions.
and don't be surprised if the red shirt shows some discoloration after pressing..that is normal with red shirt particularly but will fade off in a few minutes cooling..

I prefer to use Alpha Gold for my colored garments. Some of the wide format epson printers with pigment inks work really well. Don't forget that you would need a larger transfer paper than 8 1/2 x 11 also. Good Luck.
