Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I have just got into t shirt printing but i could do with a couple of questions answered please.
Firstly i am using pigmented inks onto Jetstream transfer Paper, but the first few attempts have resulted in "cracking" on the logo after the first wash. Is this down to not applying heat for long enough as i have tried doing it for longer but the outer edges of the transfer turn yellow?
The other thing is i am considering buying a Heat Press but i am slightly reluctant as things don't seem to be going too well.
I have not used Jetstream paper, so I do not know if cracking is normal for that paper. I do use Jetpro Sofstretch paper (JPSS) and it does not crack in the wash. It holds color and does not peel either.
It can be applied with a home iron or heat press. I would suggest you find a sample pack of JPSS (Jetpro sofstretch) paper and try that paper before you make any decisions on if this process is good or not.
The right paper, ink, and shirts, can make all the difference in the world.

Thanks very much Kelly. I have had a little look around the forums and everyone seems to recommend JPSS.
No doubt i will be back on here scratching my head and being very confused very soon!!!
You won't be too confused if you follow the information in that link I gave you. Once you get the right products, this process can be like a dream.... really fun.
Hopefully you'll really enjoy the JPSS paper, I know I really do like working with that paper. Okay, have fun and see you around. =)

I think that jetstream paper is an ebay item...iffy at best from what I have heard. They say you can use hand iron. They are a London company I believe and sell only on ebay as far as I can tell..google them and check out.I have yet to find an iron on paper that is suitable for commercial use...just my experience..But their post on ebay shows the following:
Our JetStream brand glitter effect transfer paper for light fabrics is manufactured in Switzerland to the highest quality standards. Suitable for use with any inkjet printer (not for use in laser printers !!) using either dye based or pigmented inks. Images can be transferred using a domestic iron or commercial heat press.
Suitable for transferring black & white or coloured images onto white or light coloured T Shirts. Fabric should be at least 50% cotton (eg 50% cotton/50% polyester). Best results are obtained on 100% cotton.
This transfer paper has the unique THERMOK! indicator system to show when your transfer has been ironed sufficiently. The backing paper is printed with orange iron symbols inside a green circle. Continue ironing until the green circle turns orange, then your transfer is ready.
