Exclamation Question about heat transfers

i dont know if this is the write thread to post this but does anyone know if it is okay to wash heat transfers in warm water? If im not mistaken i think I read something that said cold, but I also paint around the image which is popular and it requires warm water (the paint). And if I am buying custom washing instructions I want them to be the right ones. i tried washing a heat transfer I ironed on in warm water and it looked somewhat like it was cracking a lil bit. But when i first transfered it with a iron it came out ok but not as good as if I woudld have used a heat press im sure. So i dont know maybe that is the difference to a longer lasting transfer i need some answers thanks.

First, you're not going to get near the quality with an iron-on transfer as you would with the press. I don't think warm water will matter much but hot water will certainly diminish the life and quality of the transfer. I think the dryer or lack of is the key to the life and quality. All of that heat is just not good for the product. IMO

In another thread it was suggested to wash in cold water for the first wash. But most likely, the cracking is not due to the water temperature, it's from not enough heat or pressure being applied when you are pressing with the iron.

good point Jasonda, not all heat transfers work with Home Hand Iron, some do but not all.

Application always needs fine tunning to achieve perfect results, this usually means no ink left on the paper at all and squared off press placement.

...and yes economy model type transfers/inks etc... will start to crack as they wear and wash.

for long lasting transfers you simply need to get better quality transfers for the purpose you need them to fill. Not all transfer/ink types are the same. May be shop around for samples, test them out and take it from there.

thats all i wanted to say.

Good transfers pressed correctly won't do too badly in warm/hot water. They'll do better in cold of course, but most people are just going to toss them in on hot anyway, and they'll still survive fairly well generally.

Go with a transfer that has an extra adhesive and you wont have to worry about how the shirts are washed or dried. It will cost you more but your customers will be happier.
