Default Pigment Vs. Dye

Hi! Everyone.

I am based In South India. I have a quick question.

How do pigment inks compare to dye based inks when it comes to washability? If I were to print the same image on pretreated fabric, steam and wash, would the images hold out better than a traditional DTG print?

Thanks In Advance....

DB

Hi Sunil, welcome to the T-Shirt Forums!

I'm not heat press expert, but I think when it comes to heat transfers, pigment inks seem to hold up better than dye inks.

I don't know if it would hold up (fading wise) the same as a DTG printed shirt, but it should hold up pretty well.

The pigments hold up much better than dye because it settles into the fibers that make up the paper, as the ink drys, the pigment particles get stuck in the fibers. making them more water resistent. color wise dye's will give you more vibrancy, but they als have pigmented dyes that can give yo the same or close vibrancy, more expensive but the product will last double the time as dye-based.

Hope that Helps

Do you know if the Epson 2200 which uses the Ultrachrome pigment inks is ok for doing transfers?
