Default New To Biz And Need Expert Advise

Hello:

I am interested in starting my own t-shirt biz.

I really don't know anything about screenprinting and thought that I might start with heat transfers.

I tried some heat transfer at home...I'm afraid they will fade after several washes. I got samples from other people and I washed them...and they faded after 1 wash...same thing with direct tp garment printing.

Can anyone give me some recommendations.

Is parisol printing better?
What about sublimation ink heat transfers? Is there such a thing?
What's the different.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You mean Plastisol. The answer is yes. Your shirts will fade with heat transfer (the ones you make) what you need to do is make sure you washing in cool water the first time. Als we don't know what paper you are using. Different papers do different things under different conditions.

Screenprinting may not be so bad after all?

Dye sublimation transfers can be printed on a home printer; the drawback is they need to be transferred to man made fibres (i.e. polyester).

Hi,

Ive just set up my own t-shirt design company and until I can afford screen printing ive been using Laser Transfer with excellent wash results.

I tried 4 different papers and numerous heat and pressure settings with terrible results and a lot of money wasted but now ive cracked it! The paper i'm using has not faded or dulled in the slighest after at least a dozen washes at 40 degrees c (104 degrees f).

I get my paper from http://www.xpres.co.uk/

They are based in the UK but im sure they will ship internationally, or you could ask for a free sample and then get suppliers in your country to source the same paper from the sample supplied.

You need to cover the image and t-shirt with silicon paper or teflon and set press to 140 degrees c (284 degrees f) and press for 20 seconds and then cool peel. Obviously these instructions are only for this specific paper.

The washability is amazing for this method of printing using this paper.

Good luck.

Dean.

Hey Visual Candy!!! Laser prints that hold up in the wash?! This sounds too good to be true. A few questions for you.

How's the opacity? Is it good with light colors on dark shirts?

How's the quality? Does it leave a square "halo" around the transferred image?

Thanks!!!

Hey work-ed,

Light colours on dark fabrics look fantastic because the paper I use comes with a white backing so any colours look rich and vivid (some precise cutting involved though). No halo either! I guess that problem comes with the kind of printer used and it’s ability to produce rich intense colour?

I looked around for the best, low budget printer I could get, in fact this website: http://www.themagictouch.co.uk/ has an unbelievable amount of information regarding printers and how all the models perform with transfer paper and how the colours will come out both on the paper and in the wash. I just wish the paper they sell was as good as their website though because I spent 220 pounds (440 US dollars) on paper from them and the images came off in the wash. So they are great for information but I went elsewhere for my paper. So you can see it took me around 6 months of trying so many companies products before I found one that was perfect.

Anyway I ended up buying the Konika Minolta 2430DL laser printer for around 400 US dollars and the images are spot on! And when pressed onto the garment there is no halo or banding, just rich vivid colours that last if you use the method I mentioned in my earlier post One thing I forgot to mention though which is the key to getting the image to stay on in the wash is when you have printed your image place the paper between two sheets of silicon paper and press for 2 seconds.... this process 'cures' the toner to the paper and I’m pretty sure that is what holds the image in the wash, plus the paper i get from Xpress all combines to make a great print.

Hope that helps my friend
