Default Epson CX 4700 black ink fade on transfers

Hi all,

We've been at the heat transfer t shirt biz for a few months and have checked this site out a number of times for advice.

We purchased the Epson CX4700 specifically for the durabrite ink factor (as we previously had a HP) and needed a pigmented ink. All is going well with the initial print. We have experimented with time, temp, pressure and hot/cold peels until we got the best results on our dark shirts using opaque transfer paper.

The problem is that after the first wash the fading in the dark colors is more than I would prefer. Going from a perfect black to a black that appears as though it has been worn for a few months.

We are still learning and have so much further to go, but our sales have been doing well and we have not received any negative comments from our clients - and we'd like to keep it that way

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

That's is the bad thing about durability black ink. It fades more than i would like to see. I try not to use objects with a lot of black ink. Remember to wash in cold water first time. It stabilizes the colors.

Default Re: Epson CX 4700 black ink fade on transfers

This is also happening on my end. I use Epson CX3900 with the original Durabrite ink. Not very noticeable on white transfers but with dark transfers especially with black objects/areas, the fading is just so obvious. At times, even just right after the transfer, some areas will have a white flake-like appearance. And that same appearance will be more obvious (especially on black objects) after 1 or 2 washings (like its faded).

I was actually pressing on the opaque/dark transfer paper directly (after cutting it of course) and this maybe the reason why the shirt already looked faded right after the transfer but I was able to do a technique to protect the transfer paper and was able to get a good vibrant result - but then again after 1 or 2 washings the print/transfer fades.

Is it the transfer paper? Hope someone can give more comments on this one.
