Default Material Melting?

Will a shirt that is 83% polyester / 17 % lycra spandex melt from the heat of my press?

nope I do them all the time. Just make sure you use a little less heat and press for a few seconds less. I use a teflon sheet to

i would watch the Lycra, that will go first.
quick apply times work best. This will vary from transfer to transfer type.
Using special adhesives on your transfers will make the apply time quick (2-6 sec.) and help the cracking problem with stretch fabrics.
test it out first.
