Default Problem: final transfer on shirt is too thick

So i started my line in August and went with a person who mainly does embroidery and screen printing. Long story short, to keep prices down, we chose to go with transfers for our artwork. Each design has about 5 colors. So fast forward a few weeks, we get our shirts in and the design (where the transfer was placed) was like really thick. It almost feels like your bending cardboard when your folding the shirt. i understand that there is a process to all of this, but is this normal? We have at least 5 more designs that are going to be more intricate and more colors and I dont want to have the same results. Im not sure of the type of ink or even where she got them done. She has done a good job in the past, but im nervous to continue on if the product will be so thick. Obviously, being a start up, cost is an issue, any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know of a transfer company that has a low minimum order for "test" marketing? Thanks you guys and gals!!!

I would recommend www.transferexpress.com. They are now doing digital printed transfers.
