Default Lauching a T-Shirt business...???

Hello TSF,

How is everyone doing today? My name is Fred and I'm in the process of trying to launch my T-shirt business. I've read through and searched the forum for a couple of things, but I haven't found a thread to answer my questions yet.

Here we go....
I've been doing a lot of research based with heat press/transfers. I'm aware that the technology has changed, but I cant tell the difference ink/plastisol/vinyl transfers. I've chosen to go with heat press/transfer as its cost affective.

1. Is there a transfer that comes close to looking like screen printed t-shirt?

2. If the above is proven, will a heat pressed t-shirt fit a woman like a graphic tee from a retailer like old navy/ed hardy/etc?

3. Does anyone viewing this thread produce heat pressed tee's? If so, please share with me so I can realize the difference if any.

I'm interested as a few of my friends advised screen printing would be the way to go, but I believe screen printing will increase production and my market might not be willing to spend.

Any help would be useful. Thanks in advance for your assistance and I'm open minded to all advice/information.

Thanks,
Fred

To get the look of screen printing... use screen printing! You can order screen printed plastisol transfers from many places online. They will ship them to your shop and then you simply apply them to the shirts as needed.

As long as you are using high quality plastisol transfers and the correct heating times/temps, apply the transfer should not the fit or size of a shirt at all.

There are obvious pros and cons of each printing method. Check out this post for a quick rundown of each method.

I hope this helps. As always, Good Luck!

Is there any reason why you're not going to screen print? The majority of shirts you find in store are screen printed.

Honestly Jon I figured that the heat press will help me launch the business, gain knowledge/experience in the t-shirt industry and gain capital to expand in the future.

I'm stil in the process of researching, but so far I've been told that I would be good to go with the following:

16x20 heat press
Epson printer (not sure which model)
my PC and designs

What do you think?

If you have the budget, go for the 16x20, but keep in mind that you can print any size design with a 15x15. You'll also need transfer paper ofr light and dark shirts.
