screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
Hey guys. I recently purchased a heat press and an epson 1400...I have actually only played with the heat press with my transfer material I bought with my vinyl cutter and having a blast with it.
The other day I tried sreen printing on a piece of transfer paper and transfering it onto a shirt. the first time i did it for 5 secods at 350 degrees, hot peal, didnt work, just left a tiny bit of ink behind. The second time I tried it, the same piece of transfer paper, did 350 for 10 secs, cold peal, only have came up and didn't look nice at all....What am I doing wrong? I have about 20 designs coming to me this week and need to set them up for a client who has an internet business and im his on;y supplier...I don't want to screw this up so please help me.
Re: screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
For the most part, the designs that we sell have to be applied at 375-385 for 8-10 seconds. Are you sure you have the process of manufacturing the transfers down pat? I'm sure someone on the forum can offer some good advice.

Re: screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
well it seems pretty straight forward. I didn't print it with my printer. I dactually screen printed the design onto the paper. My client has about 20 designs and each one is going on all different color shirts. I need to pre print the designs and do them daily to order...This is a very big deal to me. Its expected to be around $600 a week profit for me once its all set up...Thanks again in advance...Nick
Re: screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
well this is for someone starting up an internet business so I will be sending these out one at a time when needed. He has about 20 different designs. I just want to print out a bunch of each design in diff color inks so I can get them done easily when needed...

Why don't you give us a complete run down on how you printed and gelled the ink and what paper was used.
I think i did throw everyone off with that...sorry
Ok, so I had an old screen, I have some plastisol transfer paper. I just dropped on ink on the paper and let it air dry for about 15 mins. I then tried pressing it onto a tee shirt at 350 degrees for 5 seconds. tried a hot peal and it let behind a faint image. could barely see it. Then I took the same transfer paper and tried it again. This time for ten seconds and a cold peal. This time it seemed more hasitant to pull off. The ink wanted to stick to the shirt and half of it did. should i just try this again and heat my press up to say 385 degrees and go for like 10 seconds? Thanks, Nick

OK, #1, plastisol ink does not air dry, ever.
If the ink you used air dried, then it was waterbased ink, not plastisol.
You can't make plastisol transfers with waterbased ink. You have to use plastisol ink, which must be semi-cured with a specific heat source (flash or conveyer dryer.)
Re: screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
Ok i tried this again a while ago....It was dry to the touch but it smudged when rubbed. It is def plastisol ink. I pressed it at 385 for 10 secs. Cold peal. The paper pretty much stuck to the shirt and when I pulled it away the paper started to rip and the ink pretty much stayed on the paper....It looks like the only mistake im making here is not curing the paper...I am going to try that and get back to you guys...
Re: screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
Make sure that you don't cure the ink on the paper all the way. Approx 200 degree is what we use.
Another thing that I found with the transfers we print, you must use HIGH pressure on your heat press. 380 degrees for 10 seconds.
Re: screen printed on a piece of transfer paper and didn't work?
I think if it were plastisol you would end up with a great big mess on the tee on the paper and on your hands. Plasisol inks need to be flashed and not totally cured. Plastisol ink will not cure unless it is cured with heat so dry to the touch makes no sense.
