Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Ok... I just got into the heat transfer biz. So far... some good ones, some bad ones. Today I seem to be having a problem and can't get it right.
I bought a heat press off of ebay, the one for $149 plus shipping... it's pretty heavy duty, has temp settings, and timer. Not sure the brand.
Also bought inkjet transfers off ebay... not sure what brand they are, but are pretty certain they are hot peel.
I have been reading so many different temp settings and times... Right now I have it set at 191' C, and it stays at about 187-188, and I have been at high pressure for 16 seconds.
The top part of the transfers seem to be ok... but the bottom leaves ink on the transfer paper [peels off from the shirt] and pretty much wrecks the print.
What am I doing wrong??? What should I do to fix this? I can't find any trouble shooting sites, and I have ruined about 6 brand new T's, and have gotten a little frustrated... the other 10 that I printed look O.K. but a little of the ink peeled off on those too, but they are still sellable [at least for what I'm doing].
I am sorry without knowing what paper Type you are using there is not really much I can do to help. It sounds like your press might not be heating evenly. Good luck hopefully someone else has more to offer.

What I'm trying to figure out is what is happening? If it's leaving ink on the backer paper, or the paper that I peel off... does it mean that it's too hot? or not hot enough? I know that when I pressed some for like 20+ seconds, it was giving the transfer a rubbery feel, and I was told that the heat and time was too high.

PLEASE HELP!
I would lighten up the pressure and reduce the time to about 8-10 seconds. We offer a troubleshooting sectio that might help.

If the press is the problem then each transfer will stick in about the same place each time. One other thing you may be doing is waiting too long to peel the transfer, when they say "hot peel" they mean HOT, not warm. Try peeling them from the bottom up and see it the problem shifts to the other end, if so then you need to peel them hotter or faster.
Could be the quality of the inkjet transfer you purchased off e-bay. Again the paper makes a big difference as well as even heating across the press platon.
What China press did you actually purchase?
What paper are the images printed on.
Right now you are pressing at about 375F for 16 seconds. JPSS paper is 375F for 30 seconds.
A couple things are happening.
1. Your temp is a bit low.
2. Your dwell time is a bit short.
3. Your press doesnt heat evenly.
4. Your paper isnt good quality.
I would try a temp of 200C and a dwell of 30 seconds. If you dont get a print either your press isnt working correctly or the paper is junk or both.
These are suggestions as we really dont know what products you are using, if you are doing a pre-press moisture release for the transfer, the actual pressure etc.

Everyone seems to nice to say that you went cheap and you got cheap.
That doesn't mean you can't get it to work, but trial and error is the trade off to having quality that you can count on to perform the same time after time. I'd start with the longer dwell time and higher heat. You probably need to get something to check the heat and see what temp you are really at and if the entire platen is at that temp. An infrared gun is a good way to get that done. Once you get the heat and time worked out then you may need to work on increasing pressure. I'd look to some quality transfers by someone reputable to see if that might be part of the problem as well.
