Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Well, pressed a soccer team's unforms which included Adidas climalite jerseys. Now to be honest i was scared to death to tackle the jerseys because i had never done that type of material before. I did alot of research and found a bunch of info on this forum. (Thanks to all ) I went with a suggestion and tested some pressing using 302 degrees for 10 seconds with a teflon sheet between shirt and top plate. I also used a tip that someone posted by putting a small piece of cardboard under the garment where the transfer was to go and adjusting the pressure to med/lite. The end results looked great! No square block from pressing and the transfer applied well. I actually increased the time to 15 seconds after the first one and the results were even better. Used a heat transfer vinyl for logos and numbers on jersey, windbreaker jackets and pants. At this point i would not hesitate to do another set of jerseys of this material.
Just wanted to say thanks to all that posted info/advice. It helped me through this stressful job and i hope my info will help someone else.
washed and dried on normal settings. Came out of the dryer looking like new money. Now the test of long-term results begin with multiple uses and washings. But i'm confident that it will be good in the long term too.
And I think it was Jose that had some of the settings listed in one of his post that helped me chose the settings i used. A big thanks to him.
Most digital / sublimation transfer suppliers sell the teflon pillows. They add a little cushion so you don't have the lines from the paper showing. You can also use the heat resistant foam (from Vapor Apparel and sold through the same suppliers) or just use blank mouse pads. I prefer the teflon pillows because the shirt easilyy slides on and off where as the foam sticks to the fabric more. However, mousepads are the cheapest. All you are looking to do is raise the area of the shirt where the design is going to go higher than the rest of the platen. Hope this helps.
