Default Quality of heat transfer vs DTG printing?

I'm buying some t-shirt equipment this week and wondering about the quality differences between heat transfer and DTG. Obviously I'd prefer the cheaper method of heat transfer if quality is up to par.

Thanks for any help.

In my opinion it's a little more complicated than that. DTG is good for light garments. Printable heat transfers tend to have more vibrant images but have a feel to them that people don't always like. There's a good e-book that might help explain this and the differences. You can download it here. It's in the second column, last category, other literature. DTG 101.

If you are talking about the difference between DTG and a printed heat transfer such as JetPro SoftStretch (JPSS) then I'll throw in my $.02....

I own a T Jet 2 and also print using JPSS and believe that for photo's, the JPSS actually produces a more vibrant and accurate color reproduction than my DTG does. Especially with people of color.

This comparison is based on printing on white shirts where I would give the clear nod to JPSS. However, it does leave a "box" on light garments and cannot be used on dark or colored garments. Other opaque transfer are available for that but have a much more plastic feel that DTG.

Just my thoughts...

Thank you both for your help. Printing is such a complicated business sometimes.

Yep...sure can be.

But, trust me, just keep reading these forums and asking questions and you will feel like a "pro" in no time!

I literally know nothing about this business and learned at least 80% of what I know now from this forum.

Good luck!
