hi everyone. I just bought my epson 1400, and a heat press. Im waiting on my paper to get here. Now for something that is probably the easiest part of this whole process but I still need to know none the less....How do I print transfers? By this is mean which program do I use to actually print them out and get the best results? Also, can I just google any picture and as long as its a clean image, print it out and press it onto a shirt? thanks, Nick

transfer paper tips for lasting image

The above is a link that explains heat pressing step by step, and printing the image is covered in there. A recap is:

Papers for light/white shirts, you "mirror'' or flip the image.
Papers for darks shirts (called dark or opaque papers) you do NOT mirror the image.

Setting is for Plain Paper setting. Text/normal mode is fine, but folks have said they use photo settings. Photo settings lay more ink on the paper, and that can cause problems like bleeding or running. Too much ink is no good, less is better for this. The ink sits *on top* of the paper, so adding more is no benefit.

As far as images on the net, whoever took the photo or created the image owns the copyright. You can't use others copyrighted images.

You can get photoshop (or gimp, freeware type photoshop software) or coreldraw (or inkscape.org, freeware type of corel software) and create your own images, or join places like clipart.com that has royalty free images for you to use.

There is a thread on here of how to get the 1 yr (normally $129-159) of clipart.com for a few bucks. Look up the thread "clipart free".

Thanks you! I understand the whole copyright thing, I just meant random images like free clip art. I didn't know if there was anything speacial i needed to do in order to set up the printer or any special print settings i needed to follow. How do dark transfers work if you do not mirror the image? That is sort of confusing, is there a special paper you use that allows the ink to go through the paper or something? thanks again, Nick

You have to read the terms of use on all free clipart. Some are allowable for personal use only, some allow commercial use, and will specify tee shirts alot of times. Most of these companies know what users are after, it seems.

That is explained in the top link I posted for you. In the fourth paragraph that starts with the words "Ironall Dark".
