Default Can I by a heat press 110v and convert to 240v (U.S to Australia)

Hi everyone
have a matter i need to get an urgent answer on regarding buying a heat press from hte U.S and shipping to Australia....so essentially will be moving from a 110v situation to a 240v situation......Is there anyone out there who knows about the electircal implication of doing this....will it be a simple conversion or a major (expensive) operation. Is there any other factor like change in hertz level that might be an issue> would dearly love to hear from someone / anyone who might be able to help or forward me on to someone who might. cheers and thanks
Kate

Probably it can be done, but it would not be a cost effective solution.
You can use power adapters for small, low consumption devices, but not for high power equipment like a heat press.
Besides, why don't you buy a 220v heat press?

Cost of the same unit here is closer to $750 USD ($895 aus) compared with new $299 or as i had arranged $200...so it was a cost matter purely. they are very very expensive over here. cheers and thanks for your reply

What you require is a Step-Down Transformer, you would need the electrical specification of the device in question (watts / amps), to work out the size of the transformer. They are not cheap though. I would try and find a manufacturer of the device in question that manufacturers in the required Australian voltage. See the links below for more info

I have a HIX 220v from the states - was just a matter of cut the plug off and attach an Australian one. With a 110v it's a different mattter. I think you are going to have problems with transformers due to the amount of amperage a heat press requires.

Best of luck.

@ Dreamglass - I am pretty sure you got it the wrong way around, the power supply here in Australia is 240v, so this needs to be stepped down to the appliance of 110v. See this article:

It is very early in the morning here.

Ok assuming Australia is like the rest of the world and insists on all construction site tools being 110 volts for safety now, the cheap option is to buy a construction transformer secondhand. These you'll get off EBay. These will step down the voltage to 110volts.

Hi Kate,

I was thinking of doing the same when I was going to purchase a Heat Press as I do know presses down here are expensive and let me underline that! I searched and contacted many places but couldn't find one worth buying for under $1000. I contacted Coastal and they can arrange a Hix to be made to suit our voltage specs. But then it depends on your budget.

I'd research into transformers that enable you to use 110v appliances to 220-240v. But have heard of things going wrong at a later date with the appliance.
