I use rgb color mode. Also print from photoshop- not neccessary but you get better color accuracy. The main problem is your printer driver settings. Up the print resolution to 720 or 1440 dpi.

There are two things that usually cause banding: Clogged nozzles or low print quality (which is in effect the same thing as resolution).

However, since you are not getting any black at all, I don't really think it's a clogged nozzle problem (unless you're using bulk ink, in which case you might have an air bubble). Since you are not getting black at all, I'd say the cartridge is either not punctured, or you have a problem with your print head. Pull one of your cartridges out (not black), you should see where it punctures the label and ink actually comes out, pull your black cartridge out, see if it looks the same. Other than that, I could only say attempt to run Epson's head cleaning utility a few times, although you shouldn't really have this issue with a new printer and you should be getting some black, it would just look like crap.

Run a nozzle check from the print driver, this is the first step.

Then run head cleaning until you get a full pattern, this should only take a few tries.

What brand of ink are you using? It looks like dye sublimation from the photo you posted.

I had the same problem once and it turned out that my ink cartridges were defective. After fighting with the company that I purchased them from, they sent me out new cartridges & they worked perfectly.

You might be using a wrong icc profiles for your printer. also, check your printer option, you might be using just plain text option. If you are try using photo paper option or matte paper.

Do a test print and see if the black ink does come out. If it does come out on the test print, then you are using a wrong profile.

Someone correct me if i am wrong, Epson or any other desktop printers has built in RGB to CMYK converting thingee and if you print to cmyk, the printer tries to convert that again thus making it a weird color output.
What I know is if your art is in CMYK, you have to convert it to RGB so the printer can convert that to CMYK as it processes your image.

And the profile, you could use any of the follwing to achieve the best results:
srgb, your printer default driver, or whatever profile the paper manufacturer gave u.

I prepare my image in RGB mode and print it srgb profile and it's pretty close. (keep in mind i have my monitors calibrated with PANTONE SpyderPro)

When it comes to color management, I say you can get pretty darn CLOSE... but never spot on. Especially on Tshirts because when you press the shirt, it changes color a little more. So even if i get it to print exactly the same as the monitor color, heat press is going to change it again....But like i said, assuming you have all the settings and profiles done correctly, you should get "pretty close"

Another thing to add, from the sample pictures you postes...they do not look "pretty close" at allWhen i say pretty close....I mean like....90% to 95% close to the monitor color.I will say from the pictures you posted...that's not even 50% closeI hope i explained clearly
