Default what size should the slogan be?

What size should the letters/words be on a shirt? I know it's a vague question but is there a general rule/guideline to work by? If I wanted to print say "T-SHIRT" on a shirt and wanted it readable at a reasonable distance but not so big it dragged the shirt down or looked overpowering what would be a good size? I've ball parked it around 3" tall x 12" wide does that sound ok?

Depending on the size, the max design width would usually be 12 inches or less. That size would look normal on a L or XL, enormous on a S.

Check out this post Question about screen printing and size - same design size for different size garments?

Thanks for that, I had laid out shirts and cut up white paper trying to work it out, I will only be printing on med-2xl so it sounds as if I can get away with one set up. thanks again.
