Hey guys,
Sorry if this question has been asked before but i'm still a newbie. I made a couple of shirts via iron on transfer and didn't like the outcome so I'm thinking of getting a heat press. I already have a printer.

Do I have to get a 'special' type of heat press or equipment, stationary so that I can print on dark shirts? Please advise.

I hope to print a variety of designs on dark to light color shirts. Thanks

Dark shirts are tricky. You basically have 3 choices - opaque transfers, vinyl/flock, and plastisol. I discussed it a bit over here - Heat tansfer to black t-shirts - basically, no solution is perfect, but IMO plastisol will probably be your best bet for the darks.
