Default Refillable cartridges or CIS for Epson R1800

Hi, I've been reading the forum for a while now, but this is my first post...

I have an Epson R1800 printer, and have begun making transfers for t-shirts, so am now looking for a more economical ink solution.

I've read about the CISS from www.inkrepublic.com, and the Lyson inks and system sold by www.specialistinks.com, as well as a bit about some of the cheaper systems from echostore, and others found on ebay. I also found a bulk system at www.shopdyesub.com, but when I went back there today, I can't find it listed anymore, so I wonder if it's no longer being sold (for the R1800 that is).

I also noted that shopdyesub sells refillable cartridges for the R1800, which, considering that I'm not doing very high volume at this point, might be a good interim step for me. I also do photography (which is why I have this particular printer in the first place) and so need to use quality pigment, long-lasting inks either way.

So, my question is, has anyone used a CISS on the Epson R1800 (particularly either the inkrepublic or the specialistink one) or the refillable cartridges? What has been your experience?

By the way, I have really enjoyed the open sharing of helpful information, and by and large the good humor present in this forum -- not always the case online!

Thanks in advance for any experience anyone can share,
Charlotte

You might check personalizedsupplies.com and see if they have a refillable set-up that can fit your printer. They also offer quality pigmented inks for transfers (Magic Mix), however these inks will NOT work on glossy paper (they will work fine on normal paper and excellent on t-shirts, though).

I have just bought a CIS from Inkjetfly for my Epson 1280, didn't received it yet but although the system look good.

I do not have any outside feedback from them so far but their internal feedback sound like the perfect CIS out there.

Apparently no ones know much about this CIS Brand on the forum. If someone has used it already we will appreciate your feedback.

James

You are gonna be a happy camper. This system rocks. Comes filled with choice of inks and it is uber-easy to install. I love mine.

The Ink Jet Fly is my second favorite purchase in last year-right behind my Sirius.

Runner,
I have a R1800 and bought a couple of refillable cartridges for the same reason you mention: $$$. The cartridge did take (I was afraid the printer would not recognize a generic cartridge). However, after a few prints I started to notice my images were missing red (the color of the refillable cartridge I bought). I also noticed some of my prints would have large red splotches in random spots. I ran the diagnostic system for the printer and sure enough the gerenic ink clogged the nozzel.

That being said, don't let this discourage you, I still plan to try other refillable cartridges, but make sure you buy from a reputable place and they use high quality pigment ink. I bought from some nobody and I swear to god it looks like there is sand in the cartridge.
