Hi all. I am a new member to the forum - I have a small custom t-shirt business. I've been getting my heat press transfers from a reproduction printing company in the area and paying a lot. I wanted to take the next step but needed some advice. I have about 500 dollars to spend on a laser jet printer. What printer would you recommend I buy and what's the best paper for the printer? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know much about heat presses, but if you search the forum for threads there have been many topics discussing this.

What will you be printing on? Just shirts? Are you looking to print full color transfers, vinyl, or basic prints?

There are some long threads on DuraCotton HT, a laser printer paper. The threads discuss the printer brands at length. One of the popular brands is Okidata.

We have both an Okidata laser printer and an ink jet printer in our store. We do all our transfers on the inkjet using JPSS paper. We used the laser, but had problems with yellowing garments because of the higher transfer temp. Quality of the laser prints was fine, but we found it to be very temperature sensitive and results tended to be erratic. Others have apparentlyt had good luck with it.

I thought that I heard that ink jet printers don't print so clearly as laser jet. Does anyone have an opinion on this?
