Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I'm sure some of you are aware of this but this is something new to me so I thought I would post up to let others know that may have missed it as well.
I contour cut all my dark papers with my GX-24, although I didn't think the JPSS paper for lights was thick enough of a film to cut without cutting through the paper or using a backing sheet or carrier. Putting each sheet on a carrier would be too time consuming imo, so I gave this a try and it turned out that it worked great.
Here are some pics.
Pressure setting on GX-24 was 30 (lowest)
It works great and I will be using this method on most designs from here on out, even on a white shirt it's much nicer imo.
Nice job! I have not done it myself but chani has a good size thread of cutting JPSS with vinyl cutter. She is doing the same thing less laser alignment. How close is the contour to the image?

I wonder if anybody has tried contour cutting the JPSS for dark ? I had problem contour cutting IronAll dark, I was wondering if JPSS dark performs better under the blade ?

franzzz1,
That is new to me. I did not know that there is JPSS for dark. Am I missing something?
Hey R1Lover,
How much area did you lose on each side since you are not using a carrier sheet?
Thanks

actually i think they call it ses imagejet dark 2 from the same distributor of jpss. I did a search for it here in forum but got no result.
I am also researching for a paper i got from the last years tradeshow called "inkjet print-n-cut" by Jotopaper, it looked promising but i have not personally printed anything on it yet. It was cut to a size 8.5 by 12 ( actual size 8 1/4 X 11 23/32 ) smells rubbery, looks really robust, but its not listed in the Jotopaper website. I have yet to call their reps, but i got a message that says they still carry the product ! here's their phonenumber 800-565-5686. I think its in Canada, different accent of the person who called me. Not too good with answering emails though. I am still loking for a good replacement for the ironall for dark that cuts easier with the cutter. Any suggestion ?

Reason: addendum
That opaque is made by a different company. Neenah is the maker of JPSS.
You can try Alpha Gold. R1Lover contour cuts it. I tried it and the first attempt was a flop. The transfer did not stick to the shirt. The parchment paper was hard to peel and when it did peel some of the image came with it. I followed exactly the instruction that came with it. On the second try I lowered the temp to 350F, light pressure for 6 seconds. Had good adhesion, a bit of the image still came off. The hand was terrible. More like a rain coat. One thing good is the vibrant color. I am not sure how durable it is yet. Haven't washed it enough to tell.
R1Lover likes it though.
I read good reviews on the blue grid opaque. Coastal carries it.

I bled the image a little then drew my contour line in the colored area so it's a nice crisp edge. With other designs I will just leave about 1/8".

I was able to cut Ironall for Darks as well, it worked good too.

I tried contour cut on the ironall dark but it always leave some fibers uncut that makes for laborious weeding.
I had just printed and pressed one of the "PAROPY print-n-cut" from Joto paper, a little too heavy hand compared to ironall but i still need to wash it a few time before i make my coclusion whether to shift over or not. It is definitely a lot easier to cut and weed, just need to find out its longevity. I was kinda hoping somebody already did it, the product is at least a year old but it seems like it did not gather a good following !
Were you just cutting an outline? or a very detailed image? I have had good luck with it and it works well for me, I used a downforce of 60 on my gx-24 for Alpha for darks and it works well there.
