Default 16" X 16" versus 16" x 20"?

I am looking at buying my first heat transfer press. I already own a 24" vinyl cutter. Most of the things I will be doing will be for booster clubs and teams at the local high school, youth athletic teams and also personalization of shirts to compliment our embroidery business and some small business customers that I have. Do I need a 16" x 20" or can I get by with a 16" x 16"? What are your thoughts. How much do you need that extra 4"?

Also, from stahls and imprintables. com the width of the materials don't allow for full utilization of my cutter. They are either 15" or 17" for the products that I would begin using. And of course my first job is going to measure about 10" x 10" so there is going to be a lot of waste and I can only cut one wide. What are my other options? It will be on a 100% cotton tee.

If you are going to be in the business a while, and if you can afford it, I would go with the 16X20. The minute you buy a 16X16, you are going to get a job that requires a larger press. Life works that way.

These advice given about going with the 16x20 is awesome advice. The extra dollars spent for the bigger press now will help you later.

That's one reason why I love multicut from www.jotopaper.com is because it is 20" wide and I can get 2 cuts from the width. Most of my stuff is around 9"-9.5" wide.

If your budget will allow, I suggest you buy the largest press possible.I also encourage you to buy a name brand press.I have personal experience with the name brand press you get service after the sale. .... JB

If you are going to have it stationary in your own shop then get the 16x20, but if you ever need to travel with it then go with the 16x16. Many 16x20 require special electrical requirements while the 15x15 and 16x16 normally dont.

I've never heard tell of needing a special requirement for a 16x20. I've got one and it's plugged into a regular recepticle just like my 15x15 was.

I have a 16x16 and a 16x20 (hotronix) and a 15x15 (hix, my favorite) and they all run on 110. I don't like all the bells and whistles,I like a plain old press( less to break) . I'm old fashioned and I like the simple things in life.I bought the hix press, because the digital hotronix's kept breaking down and needing service. I will never buy digital again. ..... JB

Really? WOW I thought if you spent the money on a good press you would be done and no worries.

I'm getting ready to buy a Hotronix 16x20 myself tomorrow.

Should I reconsider?

It's time for me to upgrade and I want to do it once and get the best. What would you recommend in the 1200 range?

I've got a Mighty Press digital 16x20 and love it. I've only had it a couple months so nothing better be wrong with it but I love that press.

I think the hottronix, mighty press, phoenix phire, and hix are all great machines. The important thing is to buy a name brand. I was able to get my machines repaired and this was because they had service departments available. This is the reason why, I say buy a name brand. Being able to get it repaired by the factory service center is great. ... JB
